Heat Reflective Cape will Keep Runners Safe and Warm While Working with the Newly Implemented No-Bag Policy
Boston, April 15, 2014 – AFMInc, maker of Heatsheets recovery blankets and capes, is proud to supply Boston Marathon finishers with a heat-reflective hooded cape which will help race organizers maintain security while keeping athletes safe and warm after completing the event, despite not being able to check bags at the start.
In response to last year’s bombings, race organizers and public safety officials have instituted a “No-Bag” policy for both spectators and runners. With an average race day temperature of 58o, it is crucial that runners immediately start to recover and stay warm after the 26.2 mile run.
“We are happy to be part of a solution that balances public safety and runner safety within the confines of the post-finish secure area,” says David Deigan, AFMInc President and CEO. “Our capes will ensure finishers can make the trek to their bags at Boston Common while safely recovering and staying comfortable.”
Heatsheets capes are based on technology developed in part by NASA and reflect up to 80% of the body’s radiant heat. The unique technology stimulates heat generation and works in wet or dry conditions. The design of the Heatsheets cape and distribution system also enables the race to dramatically reduce its post-finish area footprint, a critical factor in Boston where space is at a premium.
“We have been working alongside their volunteers and keeping Boston Marathon finishers warm for more than 25 years, and have been planning to unveil our cape in 2014,” adds Deigan. “We think runners will welcome the added warmth of this full-coverage, hands-free design and the addition of a hood. Being able to introduce the Heatsheets cape in Boston has added significance for us. In a small way, we hope it normalizes this celebration of life and health for participants by minimizing the effects of new security measures.”
